He told us it felt weird to open presents on Jesus' birthday. At 4 years old Luciano said we should be doing things together, or for others, for Christmas, not opening a bunch of gifts. Here we are 20 years later. We've maintained a firm belief that Christmas is an entire season of walking together on an adventure of getting closer to Jesus. This year's adventure... The Book of Luke. HOW TO PARTICIPATE Beginning on December 1st, read one chapter from the book of Luke each day. There are 24 chapters in the book of Luke so by Christmas, you will have completed the book of Luke and the story of the birth of Jesus. Enjoy the adventure of the season! tvenezia — 12/01/2022 11:01 PM One of the things that always rocks me in Chapter 1 is how the first communication between Jesus and his cousin John is when they are both STILL IN THEIR MOTHER'S WOMBS John 'LEAPT IN ELIZABETH'S WOMB' when Jesus, still in Mary's womb came into his presence. THAT IS SO COOL!!!!!! Tom Allen — 12/01/2022 11:10 PM I noticed something completely different reading Luke chapter 1 this time. Once Zechariah was able to speak again he immediately, by the power of the Holy Spirit, spoke prophecies about John, who was only 8 days old, that he would preach in the Spirit of Elijah. This was one of the biggest prophecies throughout the Old testament. This was prophesied more than 500 years before Christ was born in Malachi 4:5 “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord." So they knew that Elijah must come to prepare the way for the Messiah. Elijah is considered the greatest prophet in history. He would pray and God would send fire from the sky to devour his enemies, or a flood of rain after a long drought. Once he actually ran so fast he outran a kings horses to arrive at a distant city way before the king did. He's the only prophet who instead of dying God sent a chariot of fire to pick him up and take him to heaven. How did Zechariah know that this little baby named John would have the spirit of Elijah? Because it wasn't him speaking. The Holy Spirit of God was letting them know this baby had been given the spirit of Elijah the prophets had talked about for hundreds of years. tvenezia — 12/01/2022 11:13 PM AMAZING! [3:42 PM] Something else that's weighed heavily on me about chapter one was what it must have been like to have an angel show up and rock your world like both Zechariah and Mary experienced. They both were shocked but Zechariah questioned it while Mary said okay pretty quick. Feels a little bit like my setting up channel here on discord. Being older I had to tiptoe into this because I had no idea how to do this. Both my daughter and son Who have their own Discord and twitch streaming channel jumped right into the new technology. I have stuff to say about chapter 2 but I just want to say between chapter one and chapter 2.. I thought it was interesting there was no information about Joseph. He was engaged to a young virgin who was suddenly pregnant. He could have ended the engagement and had her stoned to death. But he didn't. He stepped up and showed his faith and courage. Anybody else hear Linus in their head when reading that part? [11:16 PM] Last month, would have been the 100th birthday of Charles Schulz. We were a big Charlie Brown & Snoopy family with Luciano. tvenezia — 12/02/2022 11:32 PM Another heavy point for me was when Simeon spoke prophecy to Mary saying her heart would be pierced. That's not what any mother wants to hear when her son is 8 days old. [11:37 PM] And twice we read that Mary held things in her heart. She knew from the Angel Gabriel that her son would be special so it's not surprising she would be watching and listening closely to everything said about him.
